The majority wants to boycott American products in connection with the tariff dispute.

Products from the United States-from gasoline at the pump and iPhones to online stores and streaming services-are an integral part of everyday life. However, according to a representative YouGov survey, more than half of German residents no longer want to buy American goods in the event of a customs dispute.  When asked if they can imagine continuing to buy goods from the US as a result of the tariff dispute, 53 % of more than 2,000 respondents said "No, definitely not" or "No, probably not". The main reason given by respondents was political-many (48%) deliberately wanted to boycott the United States. In addition, many are not willing to pay higher prices for American goods in the face of a tariff dispute (44%). In contrast, 9 % of respondents definitely want to continue buying goods from the US, and another 25% - "probably". However, a significant third (34%) of these willing buyers said that they could not determine exactly which products are shipped from the United States. Approximately one in five (22%) of this group considers a boycott by individual consumers to be meaningless. Vacation plans may also suffer: only about a quarter of those surveyed can still imagine a vacation trip to the United States. 37% rule out such a possibility or consider it unlikely - also mostly for political reasons. A complete boycott of American companies would ultimately mean not only rejecting American products, but also rejecting, for example, Google searches, Instagram posts, WhatsApp messages, Netflix movies, or Amazon orders. The survey left open the question of whether people are willing to do this-and, most likely, it will be much more difficult in everyday life than in theory.
